The British tax office don’t seem to have done very well with their collection of back taxes from Google corp, bearing in mind the French have collected nearly 3 times that amount, so the UK’s laws need changing?

Who would have thought there was someone who could make George W look intelligent? Yes there is one and in fact two, I refer to the Don and Sarah show, who must surely be always called Trumpalin.

It’s a busy week next with Chinese New Year on the 8th and Shrove Tuesday on the 9th, why isn’t it on the same day as Chandeleur which 2 days ago, surely they both run off of the same religious calendar?  Another early Easter in 2016 and hopefully not a too chilly at Toques in Pomas, it’s the 19th March if it’s not already in your diary.

It would appear that not only is Montpellier Airport becoming more aggressive in its desire to build traffic from the east of our region, now Toulouse can grow by around 600,000 passengers a year from the new Ryanair hub that’s being created and starts in November.  Toulouse hub will be running to Brussels, Stansted, Madrid, Berlin, Fez Malta and Warsaw. This could leave Beziers and Nimes airports a little exposed.  Why not sign up to this petition if you want to keep hold of them?

Telephone, Polnareff and Indochine are playing this year’s Carcassonne Festival and you need really to be French to get them.  I think their appearances are quite important as they are reformed dinosaurs who have decided they need some cash and to please their fans.

Those Top Gear boys must be back soon on the Amazon channel, for no apparent reason partially thru the loss of Lemmy I thought a good name for the new show would be “Motor Heads” that then leads to Ace of Spades as a catchy them tune?

Thank you for your concerns because you hadn’t received a flyer for a while, I had technical problems which are now resolved, so welcome to 2016 and all the best to you all.

Lost in France

If you want to sell a motorbike in Aude on leboncoin, what do you suppose you do if the bike doesn’t sell?

  1. Put the ad in again at the same price?
  2. Put the ad in again at a lower price?
  3. Put the ad in again at a higher price?

And similarly if you live in Aude and you want to put some photos of the bike on your ad, do you?

  1. Put on lots of photos from lots of different angles
  2. Put on one photo of bike parked outside
  3. Put on one photo of bike parked in an unlit barn
  4. Put on a photo of a row of bikes without indicating which is yours

But despite all that, perseverance has paid off and it looks like Christmas came early as a KTM advertised in the leboncoin seems to be as good as the advert said it was…. it was in Ariege.

Anti-Virus and Security Software

There are many different Anti-virus programs and other security software out there, but which one’s are good and give you protection, and which are an expensive waste of money.

What type of protection do you need? Anti-virus, Malware, Spyware, Trojan,  Total security, Internet security, Personal protection, Identity protection, Firewall, this list is endless.

The short answer is Anti-Virus and Malware protection are all that you need. You modem/Router has a firewall, Windows and Mac have a firewall, and anything extra is just not needed and is more than likely going to slow the computer down. Most extras are just sales gimmicks to make it look like you are getting something extra for your money.

Best Free Anti-Virus

There are two good options to choose from, AVG Free and Avast free. As the name suggests they are the free version, both offer a good level of protection, do not slow the computer down and are reliable. They are both as good as each other, I normally choose AVG as it’s a few less clicks to install it.

Paid for Anti-Virus

AVG anti-virus, or AVG Internet security – the same product with the same protection the internet security version appears to offer more but the extras are not worth the money, a good all round anti-virus.

Avast anti-Virus and Total security – again both offer the same level of protection another good virus scanner.

Avira, again two versions a free and paid version. Both are good and offer good protection. Lots of popup message and annoying product registration are the downside.

ESET Nod32, Expensive and no better than the free products offered by others.

BitDefender, scores highly on its protection level but difficult to setup and its prone to asking the user questions that they cannot answer, too difficult for a home user.

Kaspersky, The very best money can buy, the highest protection rating and the winner of many awards. Sometimes not quite so good at finding Malware.

McAfee, almost the bottom of the pile, slow and ineffective and a waste of time.

Norton, absolutely the worst there is, no protection at all. Slows the computer down to the point its not useable. Remove immediately if you have this product.

Panda, I really do not like this anti-virus program, it blocks too many things are that 100% safe and is always asking for more money to upgrade.

Trend Micro, its been around forever good protection level but does not give the use very much information and has a tendency to block first and ask question tomorrow, can be frustrating.

ADWCleaner, finds and removes many types of Adware and Malware, free but still in Beta version and has to be download from the internet each time to keep it updated, not ready for home users yet.

Ad-aware, this one has been around the longest the paid version is very good but it difficult to know which version you have and its too easy to end up with the free version even after you’ve paid.

Malwarebytes – Two version Free and Paid, the free version is very good and enough for most home users but you have to be run scans manually, the paid version runs scan automatically and also enables real time protection. Highly recommended.

Spybot, Old software and not effective any more, too many question for the user to answer – not good.

Spy Blaster, Looks and feels to much like one of the things you are trying to stop, something about this software does not feel right. Give it a miss.

Spy Hunter, The best software at removing stubborn infections I have yet found. A bit expensive and can be a little slow as it wants to run scans ever time the computer starts, but very very good.

SuperAntiSpyware, It feels like a free product not overly effective and others software is much better.

ZoneAlarm, this is Spyware and should be removed immediately not good and not safe.

Lastly Windows Defender – This does not really fit into either of the two categories above, its given away for free with Windows. Its designed to give the minimal protection possible until you can download another Anti-virus and Anti Malware product. It is NOT designed to be used all the time.

IMPORTANT – You can only run one of each product, that means only One Anti-virus and One Anti-Malware. You must not run more than one of each or you will crash the computer.

Ccleaner is a cleaner and not a security scanner, this cleans the computer of temporary items and empties the trash, its does not protect you in any way.

There are many other products out there that report of offer protection, security, cleaning, and speed boosting. Avoid all of them, YES ALL!!! 99% are infected, are viruses, Malware, Adware or just downright dangerous – NONE will do anything to make your computer work any better and most will damage Windows and cause the computer to crash.

If you need help or have any questions about your computer please give me a call or send me an email for advice. or Telephone 05 61 60 84 23.

Bruce Taylor.

Bridge problem

You are in 3NT and they lead a small spade to the Jack on your right. Plan the play.

Whats wrong with winning the first trick and taking the 50/50 diamond finesse you say? Well, the danger is that, if the diamond finesse loses, a spade return through the K/10 sees you making only eight tricks (the Queen is likely to be on your left). A better plan is to combine your chances by spurning the finesse and playing a diamond to the Ace and a club towards your King/Queen. If this is ducked, a return to the diamond suit now gives you nine tricks. If they rise with the Ace of clubs on your right and a spade is played, clubs 3/2 will see you home and, if the King is taken by the Ace on your left, a spade return will give you an extra trick.

The amazingly mild, dry weather is continuing which means that late flowering perennials that might have been cut back by frost are still flowering.  One such is the yellow flowered Reinwardtia indica, this is a flax relative from the Himalayas and act as as a herbaceous perennial in our climate.  It appreciates decent soil with some humus and prefers afternoon shade.  Many spring flowering shrubs have started to bloom early, including Teucrium fruticans which is a lovely silver foliaged shrub which grows to about 1m50; it clips easily to make a very effective hedge or can be used at the back of a border.  It likes full sun and well drained soil.  The type species has pale blue flowers and is hardy to about minus 12°C, there are a number of selected forms of which you will most often see Teucrium frutican azureum (pictured here), the flowers are a much deeper blue but it is less hardy, to about minus 7°C.

It isn't a time of year when many of us venture out into the garden but it is an excellent time of year to think about plants that you might grow from seed next year.  You can collect seeds of berrying plants in the garden and sow them and if you want to try something new then there are lots and lots of online seed catalogues.  One of my favourites is Chiltern Seeds who list all sorts of unusual plants to tempt one, Plant World Seeds is another and there are many more.  If you are someone who likes to experiment with growing from seeds you may find early order discounts available at the moment

For any garden queries do get in touch with Gill Pound ( 04 68 78 43 81 or ). La Petite Pépinière de Caunes 21, av de la Montagne Noire (route de Citou) 11160 Caunes-Minervois. Remember that you are always welcome to visit the garden by appointment  to observe, photograph, take notes etc.-  just phone or email to fix a time.

Hi Steve,

PLEASE stop the Ryanair bashing! If it wasn't for Michael O'Leary I wouldn't have had unlimited £50 and under flights for the past 12 years. Agreed, it has been annoying at times, but when it is I just thank my lucky stars I've got a trip to Carcassonne, and only 30 mins drive from home. If you've travelled in the last 6 mths you'll find a large lightweight suitcase as cabin baggage, plus your handbag, plus any duty frees, and on a full flight they'll offer a place in the hold for your suitcase.

PLUS their website has been completely updated, easy to use, with online chat, and a cleverly designed boarding pass that folds into four like a leaflet!

If you don't like their service then pay for something else, but stop the annoying moaning please, they have lots of customers that appreciate what they've done for short haul flights in calling in the competition.

Can the person who sent the  comment about my point, that for all the guns in Amercia no one ever has one when its necessary, please resend their comment as its disapeared from my computer, thanks
