Bonjour

The Beeb really could have done without publishing their talents’ salaries as it has just created a rather good shopping list from which other channels can poach.  It says it all when Alex Jones, Alan Shearer and Andrew Marr are on the same scale.

The reality is though, as soon as they would move elsewhere their careers would wane.   Robert Peston was always hard to take seriously on the BBC, now he is wherever he is and he feels less convincing than Jeremy Kyle.

I must say I feel Jeremy Vine may have stretched the elastic a little thin.  And, as Clare Balding is used pretty much on every sports program, unless her salaries are put through her production company, she is on about minimum wage.

Maybe Auntie needs to be taking part of the money these chaps make from being famous via the TV, when they open Fetes, do crisp ads and the like?

I had another reader decide to leave Flyer readership because of my “Trump bashing”.  I don’t think I need to say anything at all. Don tweets his own epitaph.

It’s good to see all the plans being slipped into place to deal with the UK leaving the common market.  At what point will the proletariat understand that whilst the structure of EU parliament is rather wasteful there are some advantages and that Britain without Johnny foreigner will not work.

Is there a simple place to purchase bottled or canned British beer locally?

Oh yes and of course the TDF has hit the region.

Try and go to see and hear Hazel O Connor, it’s a treat.

Steve

 that one

As the morning dragged on I managed to walk in the suffocating heat.  I walked slowly round the vineyards dragging a recalcitrant and panting dog.  Periodically I stopped to give him water and even managed to let him off the lead to walk ahead.  I chatted to someone gathering dry grass in a field.  I stopped again to give the dog water.  We walked slowly up the hill to the centre of the village.  Finally a bit of shade.  We stopped and the dog took water again.

He stood panting as I went to open the front door.  My bag has many sections and as I looked through all of them not one contained my keys.  The heat was impenetrable and weighing down on me, I was exhausted, I nearly wept.  I was panting, the dog was panting and we couldn’t get into the shade of the house.  No bloody keys.

I rang the bell, got into the house and grabbed my car keys.  I’d never driven round the vineyards in my Noddy car before.  No four-wheel drive for me.  Why did I think I would be able to see a set of keys lying in the grass (if they were in the grass) from the front seat of my car?  Nevertheless I continued with my idea slowly driving down the hill, up the hill, down into the vineyard.  I did think about turning back but there was really nowhere to turn and I didn’t want to be responsible for mowing down a vine so I carried on.  Drove down the hill and across the bottom of the vineyard.  Saw a shady spot and thought this would be a good place to park the car and walk off in either direction to search.  I stopped, kept the motor running as who knows I might get stuck?  Got out of the car and walked a meter behind the car and there shining in the grass were my keys.  Come to me my treasure in a Gollum voice.  My keys resting, waiting to be found.

Hilariously and hysterically happy for an instant then I remembered losing keys once is never an option, it always seem to come in threes.

Ignorance is not always bliss…………..

………..and, in the context of not structuring your investments to the tax regime of the country in which you reside, it can prove to be very costly.

Let’s take the scenario of the savings conscious UK investor who, over the years, has used some of their available cash to build up a nice portfolio of tax-free investments in ISA wrappers, but then decides to take up residency in France. From the date of moving to France the tax-free status of UK ISA is not recognised in France and any income or capital gains arising from the ISA portfolio become liable to French tax.

Not everyone is aware of the tax efficient structures available in France for longer term savings, the most popular of which is far and away the Assurance Vie, and, as a consequence, suffers the pain of incurring tax liabilities where there were none previously, not to mention the extra administrative burden (and accountancy costs) associated with completing the end of year tax return. In addition, they are missing out on the compounding effect that any unnecessary taxes would have on the growth of the portfolio, which, in itself, is a crucial factor which should not be underestimated.

It’s not only the tax-efficiency of ISAs that is affected but, if you have a UK financial adviser advising you on the management of your investments, then it is unlikely that they will be able to continue to give you appropriate advice due to your change in residency and tax regime. You probably wouldn’t have sought the advice of a French regulated IFA to manage your UK investments when you lived in the UK so it doesn’t make sense to expect a UK regulated IFA to advise you when living in a different tax jurisdiction to the one in which they are qualified and regulated.

Of course, making the switch from UK tax efficient savings to French tax efficient savings may not be without some cost at the beginning – but the longer term benefits are highly likely to far outweigh any initial cost. If you have not yet become French resident, by taking the initiative and disposing of your ISA portfolio beforehand, there would be no tax implications whatsoever.

An added attraction to the Assurance Vie is that there is no limit to how much can be invested and the longer you hold them the more tax-efficient they become. In addition, this type of investment is highly efficient for mitigating the potential French inheritance taxes so that your heirs can receive more of your wealth, instead of the French State.

The very popular Tour de Finance is once again coming to the stunning Domaine Gayda in Brugairolles 11300, So, if you are concerned about your investments and pensions in a post-Brexit world why not join us at this very popular event where you can meet the team in person and listen to a number of industry experts in the world of financial advice. This year’s event will take place on Friday 6th October 2017. Places are by reservation only and it is always well attended so book your place early by giving me a call or dropping me an email. Our speakers will be presenting updates and outlooks on a broad range of subjects, including:

Brexit
Financial Markets
Assurance Vie
Pensions/QROPS
French Tax Issues
Currency Exchange

With a newly elected French government now in office and the forthcoming publication of the French Projet de Loi in the Autumn, the seminar will be an ideal opportunity to find out how any potential French tax changes may affect you, particularly as President Macron has promised changes to the wealth tax regime.

Financial advice is needed more than ever in uncertain times and doing nothing can often be an expensive mistake. Hence, if you would like to attend the seminar or would like to have a confidential discussion about your financial situation, you can contact me by e-mail at sue.regan@spectrum-ifa.com or by telephone on 04 67 24 90 95.

The "Flyer is no longer about the Aude and Ariege.  It has become your political diatribe and typical brit Trump bash.  It is your right to say what you will, even if you don't know what you're talking about.  As a consequence, it is time for me to unsubscribe.  Prattle to your kindred.
